A
Dictionary of Sri Lankan English
This website includes the Foreword to the
dictionary by Prof. Ryhana Raheem, the speech
given at the launch by Dr Dushyanthi Mendis, articles
published in the press, and comments from
readers and visitors to the website. You will also find sample
pages from the dictionary, a page of updates
and corrections, and information on how to buy a copy.
The website also contains a series of short
articles which have appeared in the travelsrilanka magazine and the SLELTA
Quarterly under the heading An A-Z
of Sri Lankan English; and a Dictionary
of Photographs showing photographs of many items which appear
in the dictionary and which are characteristic of Sri Lankan life and
culture. These pages will be gradually updated in the coming months.
Finally, there are 2 sections on Learning
Sinhala and Learning Tamil.
These will be developed further in the future. Currently they contain
information on the Sinhala classes
and Tamil
classes which I teach at the British Council in Colombo.
Please contact me if you have any
comments on the website or on the dictionary – especially if you
have any corrections or additions which I can add to the website –
or if you would like any further information on learning Sinhala or Tamil.
